While Krakauer’s famous book, Into the Wild, makes loneliness seem like a pleasant escape, there are many benefits to a group outing.
One great part about Wilderness Adventures having group adventure trips is that everyone gets to feel like they are a part of something important. Every teen has a purpose on the trip and has skills to bring on the trips. Some are good navigators, while others can multitask cooking and making camp at the same time. Each person also has a peer to be responsible for, which makes everyone more conscious of their surroundings and have a closer relationship with other members of the group.
Groups are also good motivators. Some people are ready to seize the day and trek on, which makes less-excited members to feel better about the activity. They can urge people on if they get tired and put everyone in a better mood.
The past 40 years, Wilderness Ventures has made a difference for so many teens and young adults during the summer in terms of getting together with like-minded peers. As stated in the video, they feel like leaders and are better prepared for future adventures.
